WE SEE YOU.
WE HEAR YOU.
WE CARE FOR YOU.

Our medical staff is highly trained, compassionate, and respectful of individual patient needs and preferences.

We offer gender-affirming services in all of our health centers and on telehealth. We are also happy to see patients who are already on hormone therapy and want to transfer their care to us. Most people are able to get a hormone prescription at the end of their first visit with us. In some cases, your provider may want additional lab work or information before prescribing, but will schedule a follow up visit with you to discuss your care further.

FAQS about OUR GENDER AFFIRMING CARE SERVICES

Contact us at 804-355-4358 to schedule an appointment for an initial hormone therapy visit. You can not schedule an initial appointment online. At this appointment, we will review your medical history, review an informed consent form, and draw lab tests. If you’re seeking hormones, depending on your medical history, we will either prescribe the hormones to you at your first visit or wait to prescribe them until we get your lab results back. Please note that if you started hormones with someone else and are transferring your care to us, you are still considered a new patient to VLPP. We will still need to review your medical history, including hormones, review our informed consent forms, and get labs.

What is informed consent?

Informed Consent is a model of care in which patients are able to access hormones during a visit with their provider, where they'll discuss the risks and benefits of care. No visit with a mental health professional is required.

Some hormones used for gender-affirming hormone therapy are administered through an injection that is performed at home by the person using the hormone, or the person using hormones might have someone they trust give them the injection. If you will be using an injectable hormone, VLPP staff can provide training on how to give yourself an injection. In addition we have an injection guide here on our website.
